Traits and Skills as a Wife CFO

Remember, when you joined Wife CFO you read the post regarding what is a Chief Financial Officer and the Education? Great! There are traits and skills that are necessary for a Wife CFO that should not be overlooked. How you utilize your skills and traits can make all the difference in your marriage and as you manage the money.

Traits are defined as a distinguishing characteristic or quality of one’s personal nature. Examples of traits are honest, nice, mean, strong, fairness, trustworthiness and much more. What are your top five traits that you can name about yourself right off? These could be traits that people have often said about you or think about when you applied for a job – what have traits have you used to describe yourself.

Skills are defined as the ability coming from one’s personal knowledge, experience, practice to do something well. These are often learned. Examples of skills are communication, listening, critical thinking, negotiation and much more. When I think about myself and skills – I often think about my skills as analyzer, effective listener and detail oriented just to name a few. Some of those I am sure come from my legal background as well as military background. What are some of your skills? Mind you this is before you even think about the financial side. I’m asking about you as a person.

I want to start off talking about communication skills because when it comes to money, there is often communication breakdown. We both know you can communicate either verbally or non-verbally. Whether it is verbal or non-verbal your purpose in communicating is to convey a message for a specific reason.

For example this post is a form of communication which is written. Are you understanding the message? When you talk with you spouse about money, how do you communicate? Before you answer,  be sure and view the video in the next coming days and leave your comments.
